Requirements for the position

Education:    

  • Minimum 3 years diploma in nursing after secondary school / desirable to have BA degree.
  • Valid Work permit from medical council,  

Experience:    

  • Essential 2 year of previous experience as Nurse.
  • Desirable experience as NTS for more than one year
  • Desirable in MSF or other NGOs.
  • Essential Valid Work Permit.

Languages:    

  • Mission and local language essential. English language required (minimum at intermediate level)  

Other:    

  • Essential computer literacy (Word, Excel and Internet) 
  • Teamwork, Stress Management 

Description

  • Place of work:    Abs District, Hajja governorate, Republic of Yemen
  • Level:    8
  • Duration:    One-year contract with the possibility of extension. Subjected to a probationary period according to Yemen
  • Labor Law.
  • Others:    Salary: Based on the organization's scale.

Main objectives

Plan, organize, and evaluate the activities concerning nursing and the team associated, according to MSF values, policies and protocols and universal health standards, in order to warrant the quality and continuity of the health care and the development of the plan of action.

Main responsibilities and tasks

  • Carry out the functions and tasks associated to nursing whenever required or needed.
  • Implement all the protocols and hygiene procedures and supervise his/her team follow the same standards, in order to warrant the quality of the care and service.
  • Organize and coordinate the activities of his/her team (week’s schedule, annual leave, absences, etc.), evaluate their performance and define and ensure the needs for training of staff, in order to ensure and maintain high standards of quality.
  • Carry out and/or supervise the (decentralized) pharmacy and medical equipment management (drugs orders, follow-up of the stock, storage conditions, inventories, follow-up of expired drugs and their destruction, drugs consumption, etc.).
  • Ensuring that all staff using medical devices are qualified and trained. Ensuring that cleaning and minor maintenance tasks are performed according to the protocols.
  • Carry-out and/or coordinate administrative, information and data collection tasks, and elaborate regular reporting.
  • Give feedback/ reports to medical focal point.

MSF Section/Context Specific 

Accountabilities     

  • In collaboration with other medical managers and supervisors, capacity build the staff nurses on different nursing competencies (IPC, Nursing procedures, nursing quality indicators, etc)
  • Ensure control of narcotic and psychotropic medications on the unit. Report to HNM (hospital Nursing Manager) any discrepancies in physical/theoretical stock counts.
  • Ensure that Patient Safety Incidences are reported with the line manager and PMR. 
  • Ensure correct waste segregation and disposal as per MSF protocol, constantly monitoring and reminding staffs of the importance.
  • Actively support in carrying out patient file audits, mortality review surveys that will improve the quality of care.
  • Monitor the use of medicines and the proper administration of treatment in line with MSF protocols.
  • Actively participate and manage during mass causality incident and any epidemic diseases.
  • Supervise and manage the pharmacy activity and medical equipment with efficiency according to MSF standards and protocols: Responsible for monitoring wards pharmaceutical consumption. Report any irrational consumptions to HNM (hospital nursing manager). Monitor expiration dates of ward stock and return any expired items to the central pharmacy.
  • Share weekly activity achievement /challenges in the departments through weekly report.
