MENTAL HEALTH SUPERVISOR
Position status: Full Time

Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is
an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organisation providing
assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters,
irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.
Main Purpose
Participate in the planning, supervision and coordination of
mental health / pycho-social related services in the programme in accordance
with MSF standards in order to provide the most appropriate mental health
support for patients.
Accountabilities
- Participate
in the planning, organization and coordination of Mental Health
activities, in close collaboration with the Mental Health activity manager
and other medical team members, to ensure an efficient and effective
implementation of the resources needed, while maintaining high levels of
quality in Mental Health MSF programs and activities.
- Coordinates
activities of counseling services with other relevant actors and liaises
with the local counterparts (like MoH, WHO, ICRC and NGO) on mental health
matters, including referral services.
- Supervise
the daily mental health activities and patient support according to MSF
protocols and standards to provide the most appropriate support for
clients with psychosocial needs.
- Liaise
with the other MSF team members of the project.
- Supervise,
in close coordination with the HR department, the associated processes
(recruitment, training/induction, evaluation, potential detection,
development and communication) of the staff under his/her responsibility
to ensure both the sizing and the amount of knowledge required.
- Oversee
the administrative processes associated with psychosocial
functioning.
- When
needed, give psychological support to patients according to MSF protocols
to improve mental health conditions of patients and enhance their
functionality.
- Compile
the data and statistic linked with MH activities and report to the MH
activity manager.
- Offer
clinical counselling supervision to mental health counsellors/
psychologists in collaboration with the Mental Health Activity
Manager.
- Ensure
the patient’s related information is kept confidential.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Supervise
the daily MH activities according with MSF protocols and standard.
- Ensure
that weekly schedule for MH activities is carried out, data collated
through documentations and follow-up of clients are properly maintained.
- In
close cooperation with the MHAM, coordinate, collect, interpret data on
the data tool to monitor MH Activities.
- Coordinate
the case management protocol of patient and engage counsellors/
psychologists in the process.
- Schedule
a weekly meeting with MH Counselors in close cooperation with the MHAM.
- Participate
in the medical meeting and report on MH activities, challenges and
successes.
- Ensure
the patient’s related information is kept confidential.
- Define
and discuss ethical principles related to MH activities (e.g. informed
consent, confidentiality, client benefit, non-judgment) and develop
strategies that apply these principles in daily activities, supported by
the MHAM.
- Provide
psychosocial support session (PFA, individual, family, group) in
accordance with MSF protocols when needed.
- In
close cooperation with the MHAM, planning and leading trainings for the MH
team and, when needed, for other departments and actors in the field.
- Actively
collaborate in the preparation of medical reports required by the project
and submit to MHAM and PMR.
- Promote
MSF values and principles within the team and build commitment to them.
- Responsible
for the roster of MH team.
- Ensure
work supervision for MH team.
- Cover
responsibility for any MH staff absent from duty when needed.
- Collaborate
with MHAM and rest members of the team to follow up supply orders, fulfil
the department’s administrative needs, raise concerns and needs with the
manager.
- Carry
out short performance evaluation and give feedback to staff in
collaboration with the MHAM.
- Assist
and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary to
enhance the scope of MH activities.
- For
patients suffering from Severe Mental Disorders (SMD), supervise the MH
assessment and interventions in close collaboration with the mhGAP Focal
point and MHAM, to ensure integrated bio-psycho-social treatment.
Requirements
Education
- Essential
degree or diploma in Psychology
Experience
- Essential
2 years’ experience minimum as a psychologist
- Desirable
previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
Languages

language (English) and local language (Arabic) essential
