About the project

The project focuses on addressing protection needs identified in recent assessments, emphasizing general protection, child protection, and gender-based violence. It aims to establish community-based protection networks to monitor protection for households, raise awareness, and facilitate access to essential services. The project will support vulnerable individuals facing challenges such as evictions, GBV, and disabilities by providing information on referral pathways and financial assistance for necessary services.
 
To further assist most vulnerable households, direct cash support will be offered to address urgent needs and reduce risks related to displacement and GBV. It also aims to enhance the safety and dignity of vulnerable populations through general and child protection services, case management, and psychosocial support, utilizing community safe spaces, particularly for IDPs, Muhamasheen, people with disabilities, women and children.

Your role

The Protection Assistant will support the Protection Officer in the implementation of protection activities within the project. This role will focus on assisting in protection monitoring and reporting, facilitating cash assistance, managing referrals to services, and engaging with community-based protection networks. The Protection Assistant will contribute to raising awareness about protection issues and support child protection services, including case management and psychosocial support. This position aims to empower vulnerable individuals and local communities to identify and respond to protection risks effectively.

Key responsibilities

  • Maintain accurate records of protection activities, case files, and cash assistance distributions.
  • Assist in preparing high-quality reports on protection activities, including situational and trend analysis.
  • Identify vulnerable individuals and families, facilitating their access to necessary protection services.
  • Support the referral process, ensuring beneficiaries connect with essential services, including case management, cash for protection and psychosocial support.
  • Monitor and document case progress, ensuring timely follow-up and appropriate interventions.
  • Engage community members to raise awareness about available protection services.
  • Organize and facilitate awareness-raising sessions that educate communities on protection issues, including GBV and child protection.
  • Collaborate with community leaders to promote local ownership of protection initiatives and enhance community trust.
  • Support the collection and analysis of data related to protection activities, ensuring all data is disaggregated by gender, age, and disability.
  • Assist in conducting training sessions for community workers and CBPN members on referral procedures aligned with the National Protection Cluster Referral Package.
  • Provide logistical support for training events, ensuring effective participant engagement.
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer learning sessions among community members to share best practices in addressing protection issues.
  • Support the establishment and operation of feedback and complaints mechanisms to ensure accountability to affected populations.
  • Conduct regular monitoring visits to assess the implementation of protection programs and gather feedback from beneficiaries to assess the effectiveness of services.

Safeguarding and safe programming

  • Ensures all parental consent documents and procedures are respected and up to date"
  • Respects relevant codes of conducts and monitors that colleagues do the same

Role specifications       

  • A bachelor’s degree in social sciences or relevant field is required.        
  • Minimum 3 years (I)NGO experience in the field of Child Protection Programs.
  • Very good understanding of the protection landscape in Yemen, especially for children.
  • Understanding of protection issues affecting vulnerable groups, including IDPs and conflict-affected communities.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to field locations in Taiz Governorate
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Proficiency in Arabic and English, with strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with data collection methods and monitoring frameworks.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to ethical standards and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a dynamic team environment. 

Reporting Structure

  • Reports to: Protection Officer
  • Collaborates with: War Child Staff, partner organizations, stakeholders, and beneficiaries to ensure cohesive project implementation and alignment with strategic goals.
