started its activity in Yemen since 2012 and has been implementing projects in
5 sectors namely FSL, Education and Child Protection, WASH and Health
,Protection, Shelter and CCCM , and Governance and skill-building

Job Title: Research Specialist
Reporting to:Localization and Governance Manager

Location: Aden, with regular travel to IRG areas

Project Context
This project seeks to elevate the voices of Local and
National Humanitarian Actors (LNHAs), as well as Women’s Rights Organizations
and Women-Led Organizations (WROs/WLOs), in humanitarian decision-making
processes. Grounded in the belief that research can serve as a powerful bridge
to humanitarian equity, the Research Specialist will play a leading role in
designing, implementing, and translating research into policy and advocacy
actions. This position is critical in ensuring that local actors influence the
decisions that directly impact their communities.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
1.Research Design & Methodology Development
- Lead
the development of context-appropriate and participatory research
frameworks that prioritize the lived experiences of LNHAs and WROs/WLOs.
- Collaborate
with project stakeholders to ensure the research questions are aligned
with real challenges faced by local actors in humanitarian coordination.
- Design
comprehensive toolkits for data collection, including surveys, interview
guides, and focus group discussion outlines, ensuring diversity and
inclusion.
- Integrate
qualitative and quantitative methods to generate holistic insights that
combine statistical trends with human-centered narratives.
- Ensure
compliance with ethical standards in research, including voluntary
participation, informed consent, data security, and do-no-harm principles.
2. Data Collection & Management
- Plan
and coordinate the implementation of field research activities across
diverse geographic and cultural contexts, particularly in fragile or
conflict-affected areas.
- Leading
data collection process to ensure accurate, consistent, and timely data
gathering.
- Establish
clear protocols for managing sensitive data, including anonymization and
secure storage of research records.
- Develop
and maintain robust databases that allow for streamlined data retrieval,
analysis, and reporting.
- Conduct
periodic data quality assessments to validate findings and ensure
reliability and consistency.
3. Information Analysis & Reporting
- Perform
detailed data analysis to identify trends, systemic barriers, gaps, and
opportunities related to LNHAs and WROs/WLOs within humanitarian
decision-making platforms.
- Translate
research findings into actionable insights, tailored reports, and
user-friendly outputs that support both internal learning and external
influence.
- Produce
high-quality written materials, such as analytical reports, briefing
notes, case studies, and knowledge products that speak to diverse
audiences including donors, INGOs, and policymakers.
- Use
data visualization software (e.g., Power BI, GIS, Tableau) to turn complex
data into readable, engaging visual content that enhances understanding
and drives action.
- Highlight
promising practices and stories of impact to showcase the value of local
engagement in humanitarian system.
- Represent
the organization in relevant coordination platforms, research consortiums,
and advocacy spaces, ensuring that local voices are elevated in global
conversations.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Learning (MEL)
- Integrate
research activities within the project’s MEL framework to ensure
systematic tracking of outcomes, learning, and adaptive management.
- Develop
learning questions and indicators that measure the effectiveness of
research in informing policy and improving participation outcomes.
- Contribute
to project reviews, after-action reviews, and donor reporting by
synthesizing evidence of progress, challenges, and emerging good
practices.
5. Compliance & Ethical Oversight
- Ensure
all research activities adhere to international ethical standards,
including respect for participant dignity, autonomy, and safety.
- Manage
risks related to data misuse, politicization, or potential harm to
participants by establishing clear data governance and accountability
protocols.
- Maintain
compliance with donor requirements, institutional policies, and data
protection regulations across all research-related processes.
- Promote
transparency in methodology and reporting to enhance the credibility and
legitimacy of research findings.
Requirements
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Master’s
degree in social sciences, Public Policy, Development Studies, or a
related field.
- Minimum
3 years of experience in qualitative and quantitative research roles, with
a strong focus on humanitarian policy, coordination systems, or
localization agendas.
- Strong
data storytelling skills—translating complex findings into clear,
actionable messages.
- Excellent
written and spoken English and Arabic, with the ability to effectively
engage diverse stakeholders.
- Familiarity
with humanitarian architecture, especially within fragile and
conflict-affected contexts.
