Job Summary:
The Medical Doctor will be responsible for providing integrated healthcare
services, including medical consultations, diagnosis, treatment, and referral
services at the assigned health center. The role also includes nutrition
assessments, managing severe acute malnutrition (SAM) cases in the Therapeutic
Feeding Center (TFC), and ensuring high-quality patient care in alignment with
national and international medical standards.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Clinical Services & Patient Care
- Provide
outpatient consultations and treatment for common diseases, maternal and
child health conditions, and non-communicable diseases.
- Diagnose
and manage acute and chronic medical conditions, ensuring appropriate
treatment and referral for critical cases.
- Supervise
and ensure the proper management of patients in the Therapeutic Feeding
Center (TFC), particularly children with severe acute malnutrition (SAM)
with complications.
- Prescribe
and administer medications and therapeutic feeding regimens in accordance
with WHO and national guidelines.
- Ensure
proper documentation and maintenance of patient records in line with
health facility protocols.
2. Nutrition & Maternal-Child Health Support
- Conduct
nutrition screenings and assessments for children under five and
pregnant/lactating women.
- Support
the management of malnutrition cases, particularly within the TFC and
Outpatient Therapeutic Program (OTP).
- Provide
health education and counseling on Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF)
practices and disease prevention.
- Work
closely with the nutrition teams to integrate health and nutrition
interventions.
3. Therapeutic Feeding Center (TFC) Management
- Oversee
and ensure proper case management of malnourished children admitted to the
TFC.
- Train
and supervise health workers on the management of severe acute
malnutrition (SAM) with medical complications.
- Monitor
and ensure the availability of essential medicines, medical supplies, and
therapeutic foods for effective TFC operations.
4. Capacity Building & Supervision
- Provide
on-the-job training and mentorship to nurses, midwives, and other health
staff in clinical care and malnutrition management.
- Ensure
adherence to infection prevention and control (IPC) protocols within the
health center.
- Support
the implementation of clinical guidelines and standard operating
procedures (SOPs).
5. Data Collection & Reporting
- Ensure
accurate documentation and timely reporting of health and nutrition
indicators to the Project Coordinator (PC).
- Maintain
up-to-date patient records and contribute to data-driven decision-making
for program improvements.
- Participate
in health surveillance, outbreak response, and epidemiological monitoring
as required.
6. Coordination & Program Support
- Collaborate
with the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MoPHP) and other health
actors to enhance service delivery.
- Work
closely with community health volunteers to strengthen community-based
healthcare interventions.
- Participate
in regular program review meetings, health cluster meetings, and
coordination forums.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Medical
Degree in Medicine (MBBS) from a recognized institution.
- Valid
medical license to practice in Yemen.
- At
least 5 years of clinical experience, including experience in primary
healthcare, emergency management, and maternal-child health.
- Proven
experience in Therapeutic Feeding Center (TFC) management and treatment of
severe acute malnutrition (SAM) with complications.
- Strong
knowledge of WHO and MoPHP clinical protocols, including infectious
disease management, malnutrition treatment, and maternal health care.
- Experience
in training and supervising health workers is an asset.
- Strong
understanding of health information systems (HIS), medical record-keeping,
and reporting requirements.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience
working in humanitarian or conflict-affected settings.
- Knowledge
of community-based nutrition and health interventions.
- Ability
to work under pressure in resource-limited and challenging environments.
- Fluency
in Arabic (required); English proficiency is an asset.
