Position Title: Psychologist (Health Assistant)

Job Summary
The Psychologist will provide psychosocial support to
children and their families enrolled in the Heart Project before, during, and
after surgery. The role involves emotional counseling, trauma support, and
preparation of families for the surgical process. Additionally, the
Psychologist will oversee non-medical program supplies, maintain updated
records of monthly surgery cohorts, and support program activities, including
Hope Day celebrations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Psychosocial Support & Counseling:
- Provide
preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative psychosocial support to
children and their families to prepare them emotionally for surgery.
- Offer
psychological support to children during hospitalization and
post-operative recovery.
- Conduct
individual and group counseling sessions on stress management, coping
mechanisms, and emotional resilience to help families cope with stress,
anxiety, and emotional challenges related to surgery.
- Facilitate
support group sessions for caregivers and families to share experiences
and strengthen coping mechanisms.
- Develop
child-friendly psychological interventions to ease hospital experiences.
2. Post-Operative Follow-Up & Monitoring:
- Conduct
post-surgery follow-ups to assess children’s emotional well-being and
support their reintegration.
- Provide
guidance and counseling to families on long-term emotional support for
their children.
- Document
progress and challenges, ensuring continuity of psychosocial care.
- Facilitate
psychoeducation sessions to help families understand congenital heart
disease and its impacts.
- Assist
in organizing and participating in Hope Day celebrations, ensuring
meaningful engagement with SPRY, families and children.
3. Program Management & Coordination:
- Maintain
and regularly update the list of children scheduled for surgery in monthly
cohorts.
- Compile
and submit monthly psychosocial support reports, highlighting key cases,
challenges, and progress.
- Manage
the program’s non-medical supplies, ensuring timely availability of items
needed for patient support.
- Support
the coordination of patient follow-ups and communication with family’s
post-surgery and after home discharge.
- Maintain
accurate records and documentation for each child and family receiving
support.
- Contribute
to project evaluations by assessing the psychosocial impact of the
program.
4. Management of Non-Medical Supplies:
- Oversee
inventory and distribution of non-medical supplies to the children
- Ensure
that all psychosocial support materials (e.g., play therapy items,
educational materials) are available and well-managed.
- Coordinate
logistics for child and family support activities.
5. Team Collaboration & Capacity Building:
- Work
closely with the medical and programs teams to ensure a holistic approach
to patient care.
- Train
hospital staff and volunteers on basic psychological first aid and
child-friendly communication.
- Provide
input into program development, ensuring psychosocial aspects are
integrated into the project.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s
degree in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counseling, or a related field.
- Minimum
3-5 years of experience in providing psychosocial support, preferably in a
healthcare or humanitarian setting.
- Experience
working with children and families facing medical or emotional trauma.
- Strong
counseling and emotional support skills.
- Ability
to handle sensitive cases with confidentiality and cultural sensitivity.
- Experience
in report writing and program documentation.
Preferred Skills:
- Familiarity
with trauma-informed care and child psychology.
- Experience
working in healthcare or humanitarian programs.
- Proficiency
in Arabic and English
