Established in 1951, IOM is the leading inter-governmental

humane and orderly migration for the benefit of all. It does so by providing
services and advice to governments and migrants.
Organizational Context and Scope:
Under the overall supervision of the Protection Officer and
direct supervision of the Senior Protection Assistant, and in collaboration
with other relevant units, the Protection Case Worker will support conducting
all steps of case management for persons who have experienced or at the
heightened risk of being exposed to human rights violation including women,
girls and persons with disability. The case management targets migrants,
internally displaced persons and members of host communities. The modality of
case management can be static and mobile/remote, and shall be provided in
different IOM operational sites including camps, informal settlements, migrant
response points.
Core Functions / Responsibilities:
1. Assist in protection unit’s activities
in operational sites including camps, MRPs, departure centre, community- based
care centre serving migrants, IDPs and host communities with protection needs.
2. Provide information counselling on protection to
crisis-affected population and migrants.
3. Provide comprehensive case management services to
individuals at risk of or experiencing protection incidents, including human
rights violations and trafficking. This involves conducting assessments,
developing case plans, implementing interventions, and ensuring appropriate
follow-up.
4. Identify and assist identify protection case clients
including victims of trafficking and other vulnerable individuals through
targeted interventions and support mechanisms.
5. Collaborate with partners to facilitate referrals to
appropriate services, ensuring a coordinated and effective response to
protection needs.
6. Manage and distribute cash assistance for protection
purposes, adhering to organizational guidelines and ensuring accountability.
7. Organize and conduct awareness-raising activities to
inform communities about protection risks, rights, and available services.
8. Facilitate focus group discussions to gather information
on protection concerns, community dynamics, and service gaps, informing programmatic
responses.
9. Provide training and support to other staff, partners, and
community members to enhance their ability to identify and respond to
protection issues effectively.
10. Maintain accurate and confidential case files, and
prepare regular reports on activities, challenges, and outcomes to inform
program development and donor reporting.
11. Participate in monitoring and evaluation activities to
assess the effectiveness of protection interventions and contribute to
continuous improvement.
12. When necessary, assisting in organizing Voluntary
Humanitarian Return (VHR) assistance.
13. Assist in organizing distribution activities targeting
migrants and community members.
14. Assist in emergency protection
responses, including rapid assessments and immediate support to affected
populations during crises.
15. work as a patrolling team and visit hospitals and
migrants’ diaspora neighborhoods within the city to identify cases who are
victims of explosive ordnance/mines and conduct the necessary assessment and
share with the management.
16. Meet regularly with migrants’ diasporas leaders and
discuss trends, situation of migrants and the challenges
and report to senior management.
17. Speaking Arabic language and Ethiopian languages (Oromo,
Amhara, Tigray) is mandatory.
18. Perform any other tasks as required.
Required Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- University
degree (B.S.c) in social science, business administration or other
relevant discipline with one years of relevant professional experience as
Case Worker
Or,
- High
School Diploma with three years of relevant professional experience as
Case Worker.
Experience:
- Adequate
experience in protection activities working with migrants/asylum seekers
particularly from the countries of the horn of Africa.
Skills:
- Knowledge
in using Microsoft applications package (work, excel, PowerPoints. Etc);
- Knowledge
in the migration context in Yemen;
- Excellent
communication skills;
LANGUAGES
- For
this position, fluency in Arabic, Oromo and Amhara is required (oral and
written).
- Knowledge
of Tegray language is an advantage.
