Vacancy Announcement – QUALIFIED TRANSLATOR
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is an international,
independent, non-profit medical humanitarian organisation that delivers
emergency aid to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, pandemics,
natural disasters, and exclusion from healthcare. MSF started working in Yemen
since 1986 and have been present in the country continuously since 2007. Today,
MSF works in 23 hospitals across the country, and provides support to more than
17 health facilities across 13 governorates, in line with our principles of

Médecins Sans Frontiéres Belgium in Yemen mission is looking
for Yemeni nationals to recruit for the Qualified Translator position:
Location: Mocha Project
Contract Duration – 1 year, renewable.
Contract type: Fixed – Term
Reporting to: Project Coordinator Support.
MAIN PURPOSE
Performing professional translation activities and delegated
duties dependmg on supervisor's specializa mand mstructions and according to
MSF protocols, standards and procedures, in order to ensure a proper
representation and translation of MSF activities and core values.
Accountabilities
- Performing
professional written and oral interpretation and translation activities
according to supervisor's specialisation (e.g. MD, RN, IC, Pharmacy,
Mental Health, Lab, Logistics, Operations, HR), ensuring medical
confidentiality, neutralitiy and respect towards patients, collaborators,
authorities, military factions and MSF staff.
- Performing
administrative tasks required by supervisor (arrangement of meetings,
minute taking, and follow-up for patient care). Providing necessary
feedback to supervisor following discussions and negotiations and.
Assisting with report writing (MSF and Government required reports),
ensuring that all meeting minutes are recorded and that translated
documents are properly filed

Depending on the supervisor's specialisation and the needs of the
respective department, establishing and maintaining professional contacts
with relevant authorities and communicating MSF's messages to MOH
counterparts and authorities (specifically related to patient care);
- Ensuring
that supervisor is aware of cultural nuances when dealing with MOH
authorities and counterparts to ensure a good working relationship.
Educating supervisor on effective methods of culturally sensitive
communication and informing international staff about local customs, tradition,
etc. that will help in better communication and understanding of the
context.
- Immediately
informing supervisor of any problems that might be linked to individual
behaviour (counterproductive and/or culturally insensitivity) and
declaring any "conflict of interest" when asked to translate
(e.g. personal involvement).
- Upholding
MSF's core principles, values, quality standards and Code of Conduct.
Respecting MSF's identification materials and not abusing their use aside
from their intended purposes.
- Observing
security rules and regulations, NOT putting self and others in danger.
Promoting and maintaining MSF quality standards
CONTEX SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Provide
professional Translation services ensuring accurate and culturally
appropriate communication.
- Translate
spoken language, including medical terminology, during consultations,
medical procedures, and other interactions.
- Translate
written documents, such as Operational Letters, medical records,
educational materials, as needed.
- Serve
as a cultural mediator, bridging the gap between different cultural
backgrounds and facilitating understanding between Authorities and
Ops/Other department, healthcare providers and patients.
- Provide
cultural insights and sensitivities to Operations / medical teams to
ensure effective and respectful communication.
- Maintain
strict confidentiality regarding translation done Oral/Written; patient
information and medical records.
- Adhere
to professional standards and ethics, ensuring impartiality, neutrality,
and accuracy in interpreting.
- Respect
cultural norms and practices while upholding MSF's values and principles.
- Facilitate
language learning and communication among international and national
medical staff by providing language support and assistance.
- Assist
in the communication of Operational / medical information and translation
for trainings /Meetings to enhance good communication and understanding.
- Participate
in training programs and workshops to enhance interpretation skills,
cultural competency, and knowledge on engaging with Various authorities
and of medical terminology.
- Stay
updated on new developments in the field of medicalTranslation and
humanitarian healthcare.
- Serve
as assistant to Project co whenever needed
- -Respond
to other reasonable tasks as requested by the line manager.
Requirements
Education
- Higher
education (health degree or an equivalent would be an asset)
- Professional
training in translation
Experience
- Essential
at least two years previous working experience. Desirable in MSF or other
NGOs
- Experience
in written and oral translations and performing administrative tasks
