About the role
Overall purpose of the role:
The Hygiene Promotion Officer ensures that water,
sanitation, and hygiene project, activities are implemented effectively,
professionally, and in accordance with the culture and practices of the local
population. The WASH Officer (Hygiene Promotion) will report to the WASH TL.
This position is based khokha district and entail daily travel to the field
Main responsibilities:
Program Implementation and Community Engagement:
- Lead
the implementation of all hygiene promotion activities in targeted
locations.
- Select,
train, and supervise Community Hygiene Volunteers (CHVs) to effectively
deliver hygiene messages.
- Organize
and manage the distribution of hygiene kits to beneficiary families.
- Work
directly with communities, providing hands-on support and expertise
throughout the implementation of WASH interventions.
Coordination, Collaboration, and Representation:
- Support
the WASH Team Leader and Manager in the overall planning, implementation,
and reporting of WASH activities.
- Build
and maintain strong relationships with local community leaders,
authorities, and other WASH partners.
- Represent
the organization at the WASH sub-cluster and other coordination meetings.
Training and Capacity Building:
- Develop
and adapt context-appropriate hygiene education training packages for
targeted communities.
- Conduct
trainings sessions on a range of
topics, including water safety, storage, treatment, and good hygiene
practices.
- Identify
capacity building needs and opportunities for field staff and volunteers.
Monitoring, Reporting, and Documentation:
- Assist
in conducting surveys and other data collection activities.
- Document
lessons learned, success stories, and best practices from field
activities.
- Contribute
to the preparation of high-quality internal and external reports,
including situation reports, implementation report and updates.
Program Development and Quality Assurance
- Collaborate
with the WASH team to develop innovative solutions for improving WASH
conditions.
- Develop/consolidate
procurement plans for required materials and services.
- Create
effective Information, Education and Communication (IEC) materials on WASH
and related issues.
- Ensure
the integrity and quality of all interventions, adhering to technical
guidelines and deadlines.
- Provide
contextually relevant and cost-effective recommendations to inform future
programming.
- Contribute
to WASH proposal development and contingency planning for emergency
response.
Cross-Cutting Themes:
- Ensure
the principles of gender equity and protection are mainstreamed across all
project activities.
Experience and technical competencies:
·
A minimum of two years
of professional experience in Hygiene Promotion, with practical knowledge
of water treatment, sanitation, and hygiene promotion principles.
·
Proven ability to work
independently with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative,
problem-solving skills, and a positive attitude in challenging situations.
·
Experience operating
effectively within hostile or high-stress environments, with the capacity
to manage conflict and maintain personal stress resilience.
·
Strong interpersonal
and motivational skills, with a flexible approach and a proven ability to
encourage others, plan activities, and see them through to completion.
·
A
collaborative team-player with the ability to adapt communication
strategies for diverse audiences and situations.
·
Technical proficiency in
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Outlook.
·
strong communication
skills, with a particular emphasis on strong report-writing and fluency in
both English and Arabic.

Willingness to reside in
the designated duty station for the duration of the assignment.
Education:
·
Bachelor’s degree in Public
Health, Environmental Health, Water/Sanitation Engineering, Development
Studies, or a related field
Languages:
·
Arabic - Mother tongue
·
English - Very good working knowledge of written
and spoken English

Position Band: This position will be placed in the
Management (H2) band. Reports to the WASH Team Leader.

Duty station: Khokha - Roving, Yemen
Salary and conditions will be in accordance with Danish
Refugee Council’s National Terms of Employment.
