Position: Case Management Medical Doctor Officer
Location: Taiz
Grade: 4b
Contract Length: till December (with the
possibility of renewal)
The Opportunity:
Save the Children International (SCI) Yemen Country
Programme has an annual budget of around USD 70 million and growing, working
mainly on the humanitarian response to the ongoing conflict and its impact
including more recently on the cholera outbreak. The SCI Yemen has over 700
staff and 1500 volunteers and works in nine governorates in the north and south
of the country through seven field offices and two sub-offices in addition to
the main office in Sana’a.
KEY AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY:
General
- Comply
with Save the Children policies and practices with respect to child
protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities, and
other relevant policies and procedures.
- Specific
- Collaborate
with medical care providers and health insurance companies in Yemen,
including hospitals, health centers, and pharmacies, to ensure
child-friendly and high-quality services for all children and adolescent
cases admitted through SCI and its implementing partners.
- Work
closely with health service providers to conduct risk reduction counseling
and risk assessments for all contracted providers, ensuring child
protection and health risks, including the prevention of communicable
disease transmission, are addressed.
- Review
all claims and expenses from hospitals and/or medical insurance companies,
and, with the support of the contracted health firm, determine which
charges are valid for payment.
- Conduct
initial pre-screenings to assess client eligibility for services and
appropriateness of case management, identifying children referred through
the case management team, including community-based networks and social
workers, especially those with disabilities, whose conditions require
prioritization for treatment.
- Follow
up on children receiving or have received medical treatment through SCI,
including regular hospital visits based on the child's needs or as
directed by CMMD and CP Coordinator.
- Implement
and verify medical treatment plans provided by health service providers,
offering counseling on medication adherence, appointments, and other
treatment-related issues.
- Develop
comprehensive care plans in coordination with health service providers,
focusing on short- and long-term goals to achieve positive health
outcomes.
- Verify
enrollment in medical care and support the enrollment process for referred
cases.
- Under
the guidance of the CP PM, review all files and consult with designated or
potential children’s treatment providers to determine the appropriate course
of action.
- Prepare
monthly medical treatment summaries for each child undergoing treatment,
and submit these reports to the Child Protection Coordinator during and
after the conclusion of treatment when the case is closed.
- Evaluate
the effectiveness of services based on client outcomes within the scope of
work.
- Maintain
strict confidentiality regarding children, their families, and their
treatment, ensuring privacy and dignity at all times.
- Coordinate
with Finance and Logistics to process payments for medical support costs
and PRs for assistive devices.
- Any
other duties as required or assigned by CP Coordinator and/or CP Manager.

Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor
of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery MBBS in General Medicine, General
Physician, with 2-4 years of relevant experience.
- Child
Protection/community development experience.
- Training
skills, ability to conduct training
- Good
communication and interpersonal skills.
- Good
English language skills.
- Ability
to represent Save the Children at meetings with government officials
- Capacity
to work with a team.
- Capacity
to work under pressure.
- Computer
skills in Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
