PU-AMI’s history in the country and intervention strategy

Première Urgence Internationale (PUI / PU-AMI) is a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious international humanitarian organization providing rapid assistance to people affected by crises, aiming to empower them to regain their independence and dignity. Operating in 25 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America, and the Middle East, PU-AMI supports nearly 6 million people annually with a global team of over 3,400 staff.
Through an integrated approach, PU-AMI addresses multiple needs across sectors to deliver impactful, sustainable solutions. Each year, the organization runs over 200 projects globally, focusing on Health, Nutrition, Food Security, WASH, Psychosocial Support, and Protection.

Introduction

Within the Health Facility (HF), the Psychosocial Support (PSS) Corner is a key component of PU-AMI’s integrated health approach, providing psychosocial support to beneficiaries accessing health services. The PSS Corner creates a safe and welcoming space where beneficiaries can rest, engage in psychosocial activities, and strengthen positive coping mechanisms. Activities include individual consultations, psychoeducation sessions, and stress management interventions aimed at promoting overall psychosocial well-being.
Within the therapeutic feeding centers, the Mother and Baby Corner (MBC) is a specialized component of PU-AMI’s integrated nutrition program, designed to support mothers and infants admitted with Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) and medical complications. The MBC provides a safe and private space where caregivers can interact, rest, play with their children, and learn participatively how to improve and adapt caregiving practices. Based on the six pillars of international guidance on care practices, activities may include breastfeeding support, mother–infant play sessions, cooking demonstrations, baby care, and hygiene practices, all tailored to the needs of beneficiaries.
