Requirements for the position
Education:
- MD
degree, specialization in psychiatry mandatory , Valid Work permit as
specialist in psychiatry
Experience:
Essential requirements:
- previous
experience of at least 2 years in similar or relevant positions.
- Working
experience as a psychiatrist - Valid working permit from the medical
council
- Experience
in training and supervision
Languages:
- English

Description

(with specialty allowance and accommodation package)

One-year contract with the possibility of extension. Subjected to a
probationary period according to Yemen Labor Law

Main objectives:
To collaborate with MSF medical staff on the integration of
psychiatric treatment with basic healthcare services in order to insure the
treatment of patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric disorders.
Main responsibilities and tasks:
- Provide
treatment for patients suffering from severe and common psychiatric
disorders with specific attention to the cultural context.
- Provide
training and supervision to national and international medical staff
(doctors and nurses) on diagnosis and treatment of severe and common
mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines
- Participate
as a member of the mental health team when present and offer supervision
and support to national psychologists and counselors
- Ensure
that guidelines and psychotropic medications from MSF and MoH standard
drug list are available in the project
- Ensure
that proper information on treatment and follow up are collected in order
to monitor the provision of care
- Evaluate
in-country available psychiatric services including possibilities for
psychiatric hospitalization and the quality of these services.
- Form a
relationship with MoH and exploration of sustainability of psychiatric
treatment.
- Establish
collaboration/communication with medical specialties in the project in
order to achieve a multi-disciplinary approach to patient care.
Specific Tasks:
- Supervision
of MSF and MoH doctors and nursing team, providing psychiatric care in the
Mental Health (MH) clinic according to the criteria established in MH
clinic, national and international protocols and standards approved by the
MSF mental health referents
- Training
and building the capacity of the MH team to manage psychiatric patients in
the clinic and DCC, with special emphasis on training in MHGAP diagnosis
and intervention and pharmacological management of MH disorders, following
MSF protocols
- Implementation
of the expanded MHGAP approach in the project
- Equip
the team with the needed tools for the routine implementation of the
component
- Improve
the quality of care in psychiatric services with a comprehensive
multidisciplinary approach
- Improve
the access to quality psychiatric services of the target population by
strengthening the referral system and collaborating with MoH and other key
actors
- Ensure
rational use of psychotropic drugs by advising on treatment lines
according to MSF guidelines,
- reviewing
consumption and preparing medical orders in collaboration with Pharmacist,
and Mental Health Activity Manager (MHAM)
- Ensure
the metabolic follow up protocol for psychiatric patients is implemented,
the timely but rational use of laboratory tests & other complementary
exams, e.g. CT-scan observed.
- Train
and guide the management of psychiatric emergencies
- Manage
psychiatric care MH referrals, follow the criteria established in MH
clinic and the international protocols and standards approved by the MSF mental
health referents.
- Assessing
whether the adequacy and quality of mental health care of patients
admitted to the services offered in the MH clinic in Hajjah (outpatients)
and in the MH Al-Amal Hospital (facility chosen to refer critical patients
(inpatients)) is adjusted to the MSF protocols and standards and reporting
accordingly.
- Supervise
and follow the data collection of medical tools and Psychiatric Line list
- Support
the activities in Day Care Center, propose technical improvements in line
with the strategy Support Abs project MH activities on request by the
medical coordination (20% of the time)
