Médecins Sans Frontières Belgium in Yemen mission is looking
for Yemeni nationals to recruit for the NURSE position.
Location: PHCCs and outreach activities in Aden
and Lahj governorates
Contract duration: Six (6) months, with the possibility of
extension
Contract type: Fixed-Term contract
Reporting to: Nursing Team Supervisor/Nurse Activity Manager
Main Purpose:
To provide high-quality nursing care that is safe,
effective, and people-centered in MSF’s PHCC for vulnerable populations. This
includes delivering direct clinical care, supporting outreach services,
ensuring universal hygiene and infection prevention standards. Services will be
delivered according to MSF medical protocols, PHCC activities.
Accountabilities:
- Knowing,
promoting, implementing and following up the universal hygiene standards/
precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection control, security rules
and other protocols and procedures in the medical premises and ensuring
high standards of hygiene of his/her working environment. Respecting
medical secrets and confidentiality at all times.
- Organizing
and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions,
and assisting during consultations, daily rounds and other medical procedures.
Participating in health education of the patient (and family) when
necessary.
- Identifying
Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical
team so they can receive the necessary treatment. Knowing and is aware of
the importance and appropriate use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
Kit
- Ensuring
patients are properly received and installed and that those with lack of
autonomy are assisted, especially regarding their feeding, personal
hygiene, movements and comfort. For ER and OPD nurse, ensuring triage of
patients in waiting areas, wards or during emergencies, detecting the
priority acute/emergency cases, carrying out first aid care and
referring them to the doctor when necessary
- Sending
material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization.
- Carrying
out admission, surveillance and follow-up of patients (i.e. assessment of
the evolution of their state of health and the identification of any
emergency situation or deterioration
- Carrying
and supervising administrative procedures and documents (fill in patient’s
files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.),
ensuring an appropriate written/oral handover, and reporting any
problematic situations and cases that may arise. Participating in data
collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed.
- Participating
in the department-related pharmacy and medical equipment control and
maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage conditions, follow-up of
expired drugs inventories, stock takes of medicines and material at every
team changeover ensuring no material is taken out of nursing area/wards
without prior authorization, etc.)
- Perform
cleaning and minor maintenance for biomedical equipment used. Following
the user manual and protocols and alert supervisor in case of
malfunctioning.
- Supervising
and training nurse-aids, nutritional assistants, cleaners and other
related staff under his/her supervision, ensuring teamwork and adherence
to all appropriate protocols and procedures
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities:
A Nurse will support the delivery of quality primary health
care services within two MoH PHCCs and ensure quality nursing services in
mobile outreach activities. While MoH PHCCs are already staffed with nurses,
the project nurse will provide technical and clinical support as needed and
play a key hands-on role in mobile outreach services, delivering nursing care
directly to vulnerable population.
- Provide
on-site nursing support to MoH PHCC nurses as required, based on
identified needs and upon request of NAM.
- Assist
NAM in putting in place nursing standards in all supported sites.
- Support
and promote IPC practices within PHCCs
- Contribute
to health education and patient counselling activities.
- Support
referral of patients to higher levels of care when needed or from the
community to PHCCs
- Deliver
hands-on nursing care during mobile outreach visits in coordination with
the outreach team.
- Conduct
patient triage, basic assessments, screening and other nursing
interventions during out-reach.
- Administer
and/or dispense prescribed medications, injections.
- Support
chronic disease follow-up activities during outreach.
- Ensure
proper preparation, use, and management of medical supplies during
outreach.
- Work
closely with outreach team supporting establishment of multidisciplinary
team approach.
- Collaborate
closely with MoH vaccination nurse to ensure smooth outreach vaccination
activities.
- Coordinate
with MoH PHCC staff to ensure continuity of care between fixed facilities
and outreach.
- Ensure
patient confidentiality and respect medical ethics at all times.
- Report
medical incidents, supply needs, and challenges to the NAM
- Contribute
to monitoring and improving quality of care.
- Maintain
accurate outreach activity records, documentation of nursing activities.
Job requirements
Education:
- Essential
recognized nurse degree/diploma
- Desirable
bachelor’s in science of nursing
Experience:
- At
least 3 years of previous experience working as a nurse.
- Desirable
previous experience in humanitarian NGO’s.
- Demonstrable
experience in supervising and training others in a team setting.
- Experience
with vulnerable populations, migrants, or in primary care settings is an
advantage.
- Experience
working in Pediatric field is an asset
Knowledge: Fluent in written and spoken
English
