Job Description

Job Title: Water and Environment Specialist.
Location: SFD-HQ
Unit: Water and Environment Unit.
Job grade: Officer  
Start date Ad: 6/8/2025
End date Ad: 20/8/2025

Purpose of the Position: 

  • - Update water and environmental project specifications and technical descriptions in SFD BAS system in coordination with the Technical Unit.
  • - Develop design guidelines for non-standard projects and conduct quality check on their compliance.
  • - Create technical specifications and designs for standardized components.

Main Responsibilities:

  • - Review, enhance, and improve water and environmental projects' designs from active grants.
  • - Update technical specifications and standard specifications for water and environmental projects and align them with international specifications according to the latest engineering code updates.
  • - Improve design quality for non-standard projects and develop design guidelines and precautions for non-standard projects in coordination with project officers for the following sectors: (Groundwater and Surface water supply systems - Wastewater management - Solid Waste management).
  • - Create technical drawings and specifications for standard project components: (Rooftop Rainwater harvesting - Public Masonry tanks - Concrete tanks (elevated and ground) on-site Sanitation facilities).

Tasks and Duties:

1. Design Review and Enhancement

  • Review and improve water and environmental project designs from active grants.
  • Focus particularly on infrastructure projects like sanitation systems, ensuring compliance with international specifications.
  • Ensure technical design accuracy to minimize field interpretations that might affect implementation quality.

2. Technical Specifications Update

  • Update technical specifications for water and environmental projects in alignment with latest international engineering codes.
  • Ensure standardization of technical specifications across all projects to guarantee quality and reliable implementation.

3. Non-Standard Projects Design Quality Enhancement

  • Develop clear design guidelines for non-standard projects including:
    • - Groundwater projects.
    • - Surface water projects.
    • - Wastewater and solid waste management.
  • Coordinate with project officers to ensure proper understanding and application of design guidelines.
  • Develop precise technical specifications to facilitate project implementation and reduce errors.

4. Standard Components Documentation

  • Prepare detailed drawings and technical specifications for standard components including:
    • - Private water points.
    • - Public stone water tanks.
    • - Concrete tanks (elevated and ground).
    • - Sanitation facilities.
  • Ensure designs are clear and easily understood by all parties (contractors, supervising engineers).

5. Coordination and Communication

  • Maintain continuous coordination with Water & Environment Unit and Technical Unit.
  • Ensure project requirements are met and specifications are updated.
  • Provide technical support and consultation during project implementation.

6. Reporting

  • Submit periodic reports on design updates and technical specifications status.
  • Document challenges and proposed solutions for continuous project quality improvement.

Qualifications required: 

  •   Minimum Bachelor Civil Engineering.

Experience and skills required:

  • - Experience in designing Construction infrastructure for 3 years.
  • - Experience in designing hydraulic infrastructure for 5 years.
  • - Knowledge and experience of Engineering design software.
  • - Speaking  English language.
