assistance to refugees and migrants who arrive in Yemen. SHS is a trusted
implementing partner to more than 5 international organizations operating in
Yemen. SHS has built a strong career and trust among the local community and
the international organizations through its tenure in providing assistance to
the IDPS and most vulnerable groups.
PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT SUMMARY:
The Legal Support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs)
program provides essential legal consultations, empowering IDPs with knowledge
of their rights related to residence, movement, and access to
documentation
GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY:
The cleaner is responsible for cleaning and tidying the SHS
facilities.
The Lawyer provides critical legal consultations to ensure Refugees/IDPs
understand and exercise their rights regarding residence, movement, and
documentation. This role involves organizing legal awareness sessions,
assisting with registration and documentation processes, and coordinating with
governmental and civil society partners to enhance service delivery. The
officer also maintains detailed records to monitor cases and ensure ongoing
protection for IDPs against exploitation and threats.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Providing Legal Consultations for Internally Displaced
Persons (IDPs):
- Providing
legal counselling on the rights of internally displaced persons related to
residence, movement, and obtaining official documents such as
identification cards.
- Guide
internally displaced persons on how to access essential services such as
education, healthcare, and social protection.
- Provide
legal support to protect internally displaced persons from exploitation or
threats they may face.
Organizing and conducting Legal Awareness Sessions:
- Prepare
and conduct awareness session about the rights of internally displaced
persons in accordance with national laws and international standards.
- Explain
local laws and procedures affecting internally displaced persons to ensure
they understand their rights and responsibilities.
- Raise
awareness about available legal resources and governmental services that
they can benefit from.
Monitoring the Registration and Documentation of Legal
Data:
- Assist
internally displaced persons in accurately filling out required forms to
ensure the accuracy of the information provided.
- Follow
up on the registration of personal data and obtaining official documents
such as identification cards.
- Coordinate
with governmental entities and local authorities to facilitate and
expedite legal and administrative processes.
Coordinating with Relevant Teams:
- Work
closely with civil society organizations and government agencies to ensure
the efficient delivery of legal services.
- Maintain
accurate records of all consultations and actions taken, and monitor the
status of each case to ensure ongoing protection for internally displaced
persons.
Other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for provision of legal consultations and
awareness sessions for internally displaced persons, ensuring compliance with
national and international laws. Coordination efforts with governmental and
civil society organizations to enhance service delivery.
ACCOUNTABILITY
Guided by the SHS Policies, continuously monitor and suggest
relevant accountability initiatives in the field as well as strengthen the
effort to document the impact of activities in the project area.
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Legal Supervisor
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH:
- Legal
Supervisor, Protection team and the Protection Officer.
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor
degree in law or a related field.
- Experience
in legal field with vulnerable groups and/or internally displaced persons.
- Good
knowledge of local and international laws related to refugees and
internally displaced persons.
- Excellent
communication skills and the ability to speak local languages or dialects
used in the region.
- Ability
to work in challenging environments and provide practical solutions within
available circumstances.
