Action Contre la Faim is an International
Humanitarian Organization established in 1979 with the mission to save lives by
combating hunger through prevention, detection and treatment of malnutrition,
in particular during and after emergency situations caused by conflict and natural
disasters. Action Contre la Faim provides coordinated responses in nearly 50
countries including Yemen globally within 7 field of expertise which includes
Nutrition and Health, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene, Food Security, Mental
Health Care Practices, Gender and Protection, Advocacy, Risk and Disaster
Management and Research.
ACF has been operational in Yemen since 2012 and is operational in 4 bases
(Aden, Hodeida, Al khokha and Sanaa). The mission implements its activities
which are centred on 3 sectors, Nutrition and Health, Water, Sanitation and
Hygiene (WASH), Mental Health and Psychosocial Support and Protection
(MHPSS-P).

Title: Psychosocial Worker
- Location: Hajjah
( Washha & Abs )
- Contract
duration: until 31st December 2025 with possibility of
extension.
- Basic
monthly salary (taxable): 1041 $ to 1243 $ based on experience
salary calculation (excluding other benefits offered by the organization)
- Hierarchical
/ Functional / supervisor/ line manager: MHPSS Program Manager
Objective of the position :
To provide psychosocial and care practices services to
vulnerable people and promotion of mental health, psychosocial support and care
practices to communities.
Mission 1 : Promote MHPSS, and care practices
among targeted beneficiaries, stakeholders and communities
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Participate
in elaborating prevention key messages and IEC material, and adapting them
according to the context and the need of the target population
- Conduct
screening of vulnerable people for integration in support groups
- Organize,
prepare and conduct psychoeducation sessions and awareness raising
campaigns related to mental health, psychosocial, stigmatisation, care
practices and/or social cohesion, according to ACF guidelines
- Identify,
engage and support local partners, stakeholders, CBOs on promotion of
mental health and related topics
- Favour
exchange and participation among the beneficiaries of different age and
gender groups
- Assess
knowledge and skills gained before and after each session, using ACF
recommended tools
- Provide
psychosocial awareness session remotely if needed (in case of no access to
the field)
Mission 2 : Contribute to build capacities on
MHPSS, and care practices for community stakeholders, CBOs and volunteers
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Prepare
(with the deputy program manager ) and conduct trainings for health
workers and community helpers/volunteers on identification of persons at
risks and vulnerable groups, referral, PFA, PM+, psychosocial support,
self-help strategies, basic helping skills, and care practices, life
skills etc, according to ACF protocols and international standards
- Conduct
regular technical support and supervision for trained health workers and
helpers/volunteers
- Support
local partners to deliver basic interventions et to monitor and evaluate
their impact
- Provide
training and support remotely if needed
Mission 3: Conduct counselling and group
sessions on MHPSS and care practices with identified vulnerable people
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Facilitate
MHPSS, and care practices support group sessions with vulnerable children,
adolescents, adults and persons with specific vulnerabilities
(disabilities, pregnant and lactating women etc), in CBOs locals, in
schools etc, using ACF protocols, guidelines and manuals, in order to
alleviate psychological distress and psychosocial issues
- Conduct
individual counselling sessions for those the most in need, in CBOs,
schools or during home visits, according to the follow-up plan and ACF
protocols and guidelines
- Assess
knowledge and skills, well-being, resilience and coping mechanisms
strategies progresses before and after sessions, using ACF tools
- Encourage
participation and self-expression; motivate participants; create a safe,
confidential and friendly environment for group and individual sessions
- Ensure
referral of the most MHPSS severe cases to ACF psychologists and
specialized services; ensure a follow-up of quality of care provided by
the partner
- Provide
remote support if necessary (in case of no access to the field)
Mission 4: Actively participate in all planned
activities and in the program implementation in general
Responsibilities and Tasks:
- Participate
actively to clinical and technical supervision conducted by the (Deputy)
Program Manager; proposing monthly case studies
- Contribute
to the MHPSS data management by entering the initial data from the field
to be shared with the data entry unit for harmonization on an interval
(Weekly, Monthly or bi-monthly).
- Contribute
to the design of sectorial guidelines, protocols, SOPs and methodologies
of work for tailored interventions
- As
defined by the (deputy) project manager, contribute to any other project
activity, including multi-sectorial integrated activities, needs
assessments, mapping of actors and services, workshops, selection of
beneficiaries, identification of vulnerable groups, planning of
activities, etc.
- Permanently
evaluate needs and gaps related to MHPSS, report challenges, suggest
project’s improvements for implementation and propose new interventions
- Contribute
to data collection, monitoring, evaluation and reporting on a daily,
weekly and monthly bases, according to ACF tools and processes; Guarantee
and ensure the confidentiality of beneficiaries information and of data
collection at any time, and for any activity
- Understand
and follow the logistic, financial, HR and security procedures enabling
the project implementation
- Collaborate
actively with other ACF departments
- Ensure
adherence to ACF gender requirement; Commit and comply with ACF gender,
age and diversity principles; Support the implementation and the promotion
of gender, age and diversity principles at anytime during activities
- Ensure

Additional Responsibilities
- This

Required Qualification, Skills and Experience
Qualifications
- Diploma
or Degree in Psychology; Social Sciences, Health, Education an asset
Required Professional Experience
- Minimum
1 year of professional experience; Experience related to MHPSS, and/or
Care Practices; Experience in humanitarian context, with vulnerable
population, IDPs, refugees, in host-communities, camps, PHCs; Experience
in counselling; Experience in case management and referral. Experience in
training.
Required Technical Skills
- Excellent
interpersonal skills and attitude; Knowledge and/or experience in two of
these domains: child and adolescent development, community engagement and
mobilization, understanding of mental health and psychosocial issues,
facilitating groups and individuals, community approach, training, project
management.
Required General Skills
- Excellent
communication, listening and observation skills; Empathy, tolerance and
flexibility; Sensitivity towards confidentiality issues; Capacity for team
work and team spirit; Autonomy; Good organizational abilities; Good
knowledge of local customs, norms and culture
Required Language Skills
- Fluent
Arabic (both oral and written)
- English
