2 PSYCHOLOGISTS
Position status: Full time.
Location: Kilo Project in IBB Governorate – Al Qaeda hospital
Doctors Without Borders / Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) is
an international, humanitarian, non-governmental organization providing
assistance to people in need as a result of natural and man-made disasters,
irrespective of race, religion, ideology or politics.
Main Purpose
Providing psychological support to patients according to MSF
principles, standards and procedures in order to improve the patients’ mental
health.
Accountabilities
- Carrying
out evaluation of mental health needs of patients and establishing a
diagnosis and a plan of treatment. Informing the patient and his/her
relatives about the possible consequences of the illness and the drug
treatment to follow and referring patients to other health professionals
whenever necessary, in order to provide the most appropriate treatment and
improve the patient's condition
- Implementing
the Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) protocol, identifying possible
victims of SGBV and referring them to the medical team so that they
receive the necessary treatment.
- Providing
psychological support sessions (individual, family, group) to patients
according to MSF protocols in order to improve their mental health
conditions
- Assisting
and training staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in
order to enhance the scope of MH activities. Working in close
collaboration with translators in order to ensure appropriate terminology
and behaviour during sessions.
- Collecting
statistical and monitoring data about mental health activities.
- Informing
the supervisor and the medical team about any issues or problems that may
arise related to patients’ treatment in order to provide the best possible
solution from a medical perspective
- Ensuring
that all patient information is kept confidential.
MSF Section/Context Specific Accountabilities
- Conduct
hospital round, perform quick assessment of MH needs of hospitalized
patients and their caregivers in daily basis, identify patients with
specific MH needs and offer individual/family sessions, accordingly.
- Provide
group awareness sessions to patients and caregivers, regarding general MH
and more specific MH difficulties, according to the population’s
needs.
- Provide
group sessions for mothers and children, such as psychostimulation
sessions, to improve the relationship and bond between them and promote
the child’s recovery.
- Ensure
MH services are being offered to the beneficiaries (patients, caregivers
and their families) in all the MSF medical services, and discharged
patients with mental health needs receive the necessary follow up
sessions, to ensure continuity of care.
- For
patients suffering from Severe Mental Disorders (SMD), provide MH
assessment and intervention in close collaboration with the mhGAP Focal
point, MH Supervisor and MHAM, in order to ensure integrated
bio-psycho-social treatment.
- Show
pro-activity in identifying mental health risks and recommend courses of
action, to respond to it appropriately and quickly.
- Fill
the MH forms properly and on-time, share with data team and in collaboration
with the rest members of MH team, support in preparation on monthly
Sitrep.
- Actively
participate in weekly supervision with MHAM.
- Collaborate
with MHAM, MH Supervisor and rest members of the team to follow up supply
orders, fulfil the department’s administrative needs, raise concerns and
needs with manager.
- Support
the MHAM with the implementation and follow-up of the mental health strategy
in the project.
- To
provide recommendations and technical support to the Health Promotion
Manager and HP team in the implementation of any HP activities that
benefit from MH input as requested by the HP Manager or HP
Supervisor.
- Assist
and train staff members and resourceful people whenever necessary in order
to enhance the scope of MH activities.
Requirements
Education
- Essential
degree or diploma in Psychology
Experience
- Essential
2 years’ experience minimum as a psychologist
- Desirable
previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s in developing countries
Languages
- Arabic
and English language essential.
Knowledge
- Desirable
computer literacy (word, excel and internet)
