  • REPORTING TO: Fleet Officer

MAIN DESCRIPTION

HALO Yemen is seeking a qualified and experienced Mechanic to support the maintenance and repair of its fleet. The fleet includes approximately 20 vehicles, ranging from light vehicles (Toyota Land Cruisers) to trucks, generators, and heavy machinery such as excavators.

The successful candidate will ensure that all vehicles and equipment are safe, functional, and maintained according to schedule to support uninterrupted field operations.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Perform routine servicing and preventive maintenance on: 
    • Light vehicles (petrol and diesel). 
    • Generators (5KW–80KW).
    • Heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, loaders).
  • Diagnose faults and carry out repairs in workshop and field locations.
  • Respond to breakdowns and provide emergency mechanical support. 
  • Ensure all vehicles are roadworthy and compliant with HALO procedures. 
  • Maintain accurate service and maintenance records. 
  • Monitor and request spare parts, oils, and consumables. 
  • Maintain a clean and safe workshop environment. 
  • Travel to field locations across Yemen as required. 
  • Coordinate with external workshops when necessary. 
  • Coordinate service schedule with Fleet Assistant for all location vehicle and mechanical assets, and oversee routine and emergency maintenance of vehicles. 
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned.

REQUIREMENTS

Essential

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in vehicle and machinery maintenance. 
  • Strong experience with petrol and diesel engines (Toyota Land Cruiser experience preferred). 
  • Experience with generators and heavy machinery. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent. 
  • Ability to read and write in Arabic and basic English. 
  • Valid driving license. 

Desirable

  • Truck driving license. 
  • Welding and metal fabrication skills. 
  • Previous experience with NGOs or field-based work. 

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong diagnostic and problem-solving skills. 
  • Knowledge of spare parts and local availability. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond to emergencies. 
  • Willingness to travel frequently. 
  • Good teamwork and communication skills.
