About Generations without Qat Organization:
GWQ is a voluntary non-governmental youth
organization was launched in 2007 as an initiative of young Yemeni volunteers
with the common goals to involve, guide and invest in development of youth
abilities. The initiative started to work on awareness raising around the
negative consequences of chewing of Qat (a softdrug) as a bad habit that
Yemenis are involved in. Later on this original focus was extended to include
the concept of civic education and to work on developmental issues with and by
youth to enable them to be leaders in their communities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participates
in WASH Engineer assessments including needs, technical evaluations of
water sources and sanitation infrastructure.
- Carries
out WASH Engineer/hardware data collection as required.
- Liaises
with the Project Coordinator to
plan and implement water and sanitation activities in the field.
- Suggest
new methods and approaches in order to improve the quality of water and
sanitation activities in the field.
- Works
with and supervises partners, contractors, suppliers, construction workers
etc. on engineering aspects of the WASH projects.
- In
consultation with the Project Manager offers WASH related technical
oversight for the WASH Program at field level.
- Responds
to and records beneficiary WASH technical/hardware feedback and complaints
at field level.
- Prepares
and shares with the supervisor weekly implementation plans.
- Monitor
and report on the Water and Sanitation activities in the field ensuring
there is compliance with plans and GWQ Yemen standards.
- Report
all gender and protection related concerns to the Project Manager or the
gender focal persons.
- Prepares
and shares all relevant Project Manager field reports and documents as
required.
- Monitor
water and sanitation facilities acceptance and beneficiary satisfaction
- Explore
opportunities and share potential for expansion of WASH project.
- Works
with WASH field officer – HP to mobilize communities and community leaders
for the building materials, construction activities and maintenance of
WASH structures.
- Engaged
in formation of community committees and water management
- Organize
and coordinate meetings on construction related issues when required
- Support
WASH team leader in communication with district and local authorities
about construction, land and site assessment.
- Participate
and lead in developing training material for community-based project
construction, monitoring and maintenance
- Conduct
sessions with other WASH staff to discuss construction needs, community
participation and to ensure quality construction work.

QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIRMENTS:
- Bachelor’s
degree in Civil /Environmental Engineering.
- Good
communication skills with the host communities and Internal Displaced
Persons (IDPs)
- Experience
in conducting trainings in the same field.
- 3-5
years of experience in field-related activities.
- Experience
in working with water and sanitation projects in a humanitarian/recovery
context
- Previous
experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
- Respectful
and able to work with communities.
- Ability
to plan and deliver results in the field.
- Ability
to communicate effectively with the community, supervisors and colleagues.
- Trustworthy
and able to manage resources effectively.
- Experience
in working in the field and in insecure environments.
- Ability
to work under pressure
- High
level of team sprit
- Knowledge
of English is an added advantage.
- Fluent
in both written and spoken Arabic.
